Sunday Morning Biscuits: A Simple Family Recipe
I’ve posted my Sunday breakfast and received so many requests for my biscuit recipe, so here it is! I also mentioned that I hardly measure anything, but here’s my best attempt to give you an idea of what I do. I hope you enjoy!
Note; I don’t hardly measure anything so this is just what I do
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups of self-rising flour
- 5 tablespoons of frozen butter (or very cold, salted butter with tablespoon markers)
- About 1/2 cup of whole milk or buttermilk
Instructions:
- Set your oven to 425°F.
- Add butter to your cast iron skillet.
- In a bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of self-rising flour and grated frozen butter. Stir until the mixture resembles little crumbles.
- Gradually add about 1/2 cup of whole milk or buttermilk. The consistency should be like wet dough but not too wet.
- Don’t stir too much; the dough should form into a ball.
- Sprinkle a little flour on your countertop and transfer the dough to the counter. Flour your hands to prevent sticking and fold the dough 3-4 times. Add more flour to your hands if necessary.
- Flatten the dough to about 1 inch thick. Use a mason jar dipped in flour to cut out biscuits. Place them touching each other in your skillet.
- Bake in the oven for 13-16 minutes at 425°F.
