Whole Okra Fried recipe

It’s much easier and better to do this than to cut up, bread, and fry each individual piece. You just nibble your way up to the top while holding the little top or stem.

Whole Okra Fried recipe

Ingredients:

  • Okra, as much as desired (small to medium-sized pods) Okra
  • 1 1/2 cups flour (approximate)
  • 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal (approximate)
  • 1-2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk (approximate)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Directions:

  • Use paper towels to wash and dry your okra. DO NOT GET RID OF THE TOP OR STEM… DO NOT SEPARATE THE OKRA!
  • Grab the stem or top and dip the okra into the buttermilk.
  • Next, dip the okra into a mix of cornmeal and flour. To ensure the cornmeal sticks well to the okra, you may need to squeeze it a bit.
  • As you coat the okra with the breading, place them on a cookie sheet. Letting the okra “rest” for a few minutes before frying helps the breading stay on better.
  • When ready to fry, place the okra in hot oil and cook until it turns brown. Salt to taste and drain.
  • Enjoy by nibbling your way to the top!
