Homemade Maple Bar Donuts (Long Johns)

These fluffy yeast-raised maple bar donuts are fried to golden perfection and topped with a sweet maple glaze. Bakery-style flavor at home!

Ingredients
  

  • Dough:
  • - 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • - 1 tbsp sugar
  • - 1/4 cup warm water 110°F
  • - 1 cup warm milk
  • - 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • - 1/4 cup sugar
  • - 1/2 tsp salt
  • - 1 egg
  • - 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Glaze:
  • - 1/4 cup butter
  • - 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • - 3 tbsp milk
  • - 1 tbsp corn syrup
  • - 2 tsp maple extract
  • - 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions
 

  • Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy.
  • Combine yeast mix with milk, butter, sugar, salt, and egg. Mix in flour to form dough.
  • Let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  • Roll and cut into rectangles. Let rise 30–45 minutes.
  • Fry at 350°F until golden, about 1–2 mins per side.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • For glaze: simmer butter, brown sugar, milk, and syrup. Add maple extract and powdered sugar.
  • Dip donuts in glaze or spread on top.

Notes

- Add chopped bacon for maple bacon bars!
- Store in airtight container at room temp for 2–3 days.
