Old Fashioned Hot Dog Meat Sauce (Grandpa’s Style)

Ingredients
- 2.5 lb ground beef
80/20
- 3–4 cups cold water
- 2 large onions
chopped (half reserved)
- 4 cloves garlic
minced
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp allspice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 6 oz tomato paste
- 4 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 3 Tbsp brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp molasses
- 2 shots whiskey
Instructions
Cook onions in oil 5 minutes.
Add beef, cover with water, and boil. Break into small pieces.
Stir in spices. Simmer 1 1/2 hours.
Mix ketchup, paste, Worcestershire, sugar, and molasses. Stir in. Simmer 30 minutes.
Add whiskey, taste, and adjust.
Skim grease; serve hot over hot dogs.
Notes
- Freezes up to 3 months.
- Flavor improves next day.
