Yankee Dumplings
These are the softest pillows of deliciousness you’ll ever have!
This is a recipe from my Mom’s side of the family, they are all from Western PA and southern NY. We have always called them Yankee Dumplings, they may have other names elsewhere. We have always simmered them in stew, I just made stew out of our remaining Thanksgiving turkey and topped it with these.
Yankee Dumplings recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 c. Flour
- 1 Tbsp. Baking powder
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 1 c. Milk
- 4 Tbsp. Melted butter
Instructions:
- Combine dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients. Mix just until well combined.
- Drop by the spoonful into simmering stew.
- Cover and cook for 15 mins., do not disturb or uncover until that 15 mins. is up!
- You can tell they’re done when they expand in size and the surface starts to get “cracks”.
- I do big spoonfuls to make big dumplings. Also I add seasonings to the dry ingredients sometimes like garlic powder, sage, etc.
Truly hoping y’all make and enjoy these!
