Easy Biscuit Bread Recipe (Southern Skillet Pone Bread)

Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour
sifted, optional
- ¼ cup melted lard
or shortening
- 1½ cups buttermilk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F. Heat a tablespoon of lard in a 9-10 inch cast iron skillet in the oven.
Mix flour, melted lard, and buttermilk to make a thick batter.
Carefully pour batter into the hot skillet; it should sizzle.
Bake 30 minutes until golden brown.
Turn bread onto a plate, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
- For lighter texture, sift flour first.
- Butter or shortening can substitute lard.
