How to make apple dumplings

  • A sheet of frozen puff pastry
  • 4 apples, about the size of a fist (Golden Delicious or Jonathan)
  • 4 tablespoons of brown sugar or 4 tablespoons of Splenda brown sugar blend.
  • 2 tablespoons of margarine or 2 tablespoons of raw butter
  • One teaspoon of spice
  • 1 egg, softly whisked
  • 1 drop of water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or 1 teaspoon Splenda candy sugar
  • Apple juice (1/4 teaspoon) in case they start to turn brown

For the meat sauce:

  • 1/2 cup ready-made caramel ice cream topping
  • 1/3 cup chopped toasted nut halves
  • Cool Whip is not required.

How to do it:

  1. Warm the oven up to 400°F.
  2. Let puff dough thaw and unfold it.
  3. Roll the dough into a 16-inch square on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Use a knife to cut it into 4 equal pieces.
  5. Peel and cut up the apples.
  6. Cut the apple bottoms off so they lie flat.
  7. In the middle of each square, put one apple.
  8. If the apples start to turn brown, add 1/4 teaspoon of lemon juice.
  9. Melt the butter or margarine and add the cinnamon. Then add the brown sugar or brown-sugar splenda. Put it in apples.
  10. In a small bowl, beat the egg and water together.
  11. Use the mixture to wet the edge of the pastry.
  12. Gather the dough around the apple and shape it as needed to make a seal.
  13. Put the dumplings in a 9×13-inch baking dish that hasn’t been oiled.
  14. Use the rest of the egg mixture to brush them, and then sprinkle them with sugar or splenda.
  15. Just put it in the oven and wait 35 minutes.
  16. When you’re ready to serve, warm up the nuts and the caramel sauce.
  17. Spread the sauce over a warm dumpling that has been put on a serving plate.
  18. If you want, you can add cool whip or vanilla ice cream as a garnish.
