Classic High School Goulash


  • 1 pound ground beef/used 85%
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 tsp minced garlic/used jarred kind
  • 1 15 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 green pepper cut in small pieces
  • 1 large fresh tomato peeled and cut in small pieces
  • 1 and 1/2 cups elbow macaroni cooked (measured before cooking) don’t overcook noodles/drain noodles
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)


  • Brown beef in a large deep fry pan with onions, garlic, and green pepper.
  • Turn off the heat and toss in the chopped fresh tomato.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.
  • Season with sugar, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper
  • Add cooked noodles.
  • Turn heat back on, stir gently but well.
  • Cover pan
  • Reduce heat and and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • If desired sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese when serving.
