4th of July Pie recipe
Thought some of you may want an easy dessert for the 4th of July. This patriotic pie is perfect for the occasion, combining the flavors of blueberry and cherry in a festive stars and stripes design.
Ingredients:
- Pie dough for a double crust pie (I used a 9-inch recipe)
- 1 can blueberry pie filling
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions:
Ready the crust:
- Form two balls out of the pie dough.
- To fit the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate, roll out one ball of dough.
- Crimp the edges then lay the rolled dough on the pie pan.
Add the Filling
- Pour the blueberry filling on the left side of the crust.
- Pour the cherry filling on the right side of the crust.
Build the Stars and Stripes:
- Prepare the second dough ball.
- From the dough cut stars and stripes.
- Stack the stars and stripes atop the pie filling.
Create the pie by baking
- Run an egg wash over the dough stars and stripes.
- Top with coarse sugar sprinkles.
- Bake for about forty minutes, or until the crust brownes to your taste, 400°F (200°C
Serve:
- Before serving, let the pie chill somewhat.
- Present alongside ice cream or whipped cream for an added delight.
