Homemade Chicken Nuggets – Chick-fil-A Style

Tonight, I made homemade chicken nuggets, and they were a hit! A copycat version of Chick-fil-A, per se. They turned out so, so good. I paired them with homemade mac and cheese, green beans with potatoes, and sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper. My family loved the chicken nuggets so much that they’ve already asked for them again this upcoming week!

I tripled the recipe and added a bit more pepper. I used three large boneless, skinless chicken breasts to make enough for everyone.

Homemade Chicken Nuggets – Chick-fil-A Style

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 pound chicken breasts, cut into 1″ chunks
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • Oil for frying (I used my deep fryer)

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor, add the breadcrumbs and process until very fine.
  2. In a large ziplock bag or bowl, add the chicken pieces, milk, and eggs, and mix together. (I usually just close the bag and squish it all together.)
  3. Put the chicken in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to let the flavors soak in.
  4. Heat the oil to 350°F (medium-high heat). You’ll know it’s ready when a piece of chicken dropped in bubbles up immediately but doesn’t burn quickly.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the breadcrumbs, flour, powdered sugar, salt, pepper, and chili powder.
  6. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, coating them evenly, and let them sit for a few minutes to dry.
  7. Fry the chicken nuggets in batches (make sure not to crowd them) until they are golden brown, about 3-5 minutes per batch. Once done, place them on a sheet pan.
  8. Avoid draining the nuggets on paper towels as it can create steam and soften the nuggets.
