Note: This is not a professional chef blog; it’s all about the recipes from our Facebook cooking group members. These are tried-and-true recipes from moms and grandmas, posted exactly as they are shared in our group. No long stories—just casual, straightforward recipes as if your mom sent them to you right after you got married and were still figuring out what to do with a kitchen that looked like a spaceship

My neighbors had been asking for some fried apple pies, so today I got busy and made some! here is my recipe

Crust

  • 2 1/2 C flour (all-purpose)
  • 1 C butter
  • 1/4 C water
  • 3 Tbs sugar

Using your hand, cut the butter into the flour. Then add the sugar and water, mixing well.

Filling

I used apples that I had put up from my friend’s tree, but you can use canned pie filling as well.

Pinch off a golf ball-sized bit of dough and roll it out on a floured surface. Using a small salad plate or saucer, lay your crust on it and fill half with the apple filling. Fold the other half back over the apples and crimp the edges using a fork. Place the pie on a cookie sheet and continue until you use all your dough and filling.

In a large skillet, fill about 1-1 1/2 inches of oil or Crisco and let it get hot. I used a piece of leftover dough to check. If it bubbles when you put it in, then it’s hot enough. Fry the pies until golden on each side. My skillet holds 3 pies, so use the biggest skillet you have.

Glaze

  • 5-8 caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 Tbs heavy cream, milk, half and half (whatever you have)

Add 1 C powdered sugar and milk 1 spoonful at a time until you reach the desired consistency. Drizzle over the pies.

Enjoy your homemade fried apple pies!
