cornbread recipe



How do you like your cornbread? If you like sweet cornbread, this quick and simple recipe is for you! If not just reduce the sugar to 1/3.


  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • ⅔ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil


  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, yellow cornmeal, white sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix until all the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk the egg until it is beaten.
  4. Add the milk and vegetable oil to the egg and whisk until well combined.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Grease a baking pan with cooking spray or butter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly.
  8. Bake the cornbread for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
  9. Remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
